Vocals production, the house special

Vocals are arguably the most important instrument in any music production and it's precisely this element that almost all independent productions get it wrong or at least can't make them sound awesome.

This is because vocals production goes beyond the sole fact of being in-tune and in-time; it's more about communicating feelings and emotions to the audience and make them live your songs as much as you did when you wrote them. There are several reasons why indie artists can't get to that point in their recordings: lack of time, not enough rehearsals, bad recording environment and so on; but most importantly, the lack of guidance.

The only solution for artists to this issue is to hire a producer who can guide them to achieve a performance that stands out and make the audience "live" your music. Someone who can tell you when you are in-tune but lacking feeling or viceversa, also someone who tells you that you got exactly what the song needs. Here are some examples of some vocals produced at Noise Mastering Studio®, the house special.

Listen to the difference in the way the artists sing; in all cases, artists had to "re-learn" their performances in order to exploit the full potential of their own songs, specially to really enjoy their songs.

It is crucial to use a top-of-the-line microphone, preamp, AD/DA converters and room acoustics to have a good-sounding record but this is only half of the way. The other half is to know that there is no mixing technique that can improve a bad performance so, if you for some reason, happen to have a not-so-good performance you will need to re-record in order to improve it.
